On May 2022, Assam province experienced flood and landslide disaster due to record breaking torrential rain.

The disaster resulted in 25 deaths and affected 70 thousand people.

Landslide also created an emergency where a train got swept with 1300 people in it. JTS India sent emergency relief workers to the area.

While flood is a regular event in Assam, the landslides in the mountainous villages created a chaotic situation amongst the villagers and the government.

The villagers were temporarily housed in schools and government buildings. JTS relief team assessed the situations in the villages and determined the needs of the sufferers.

Supported Households and supplies (4 villages, 353 households in total)

126 Households: Bowls, pots, pans, cups and tableware etc.

227 Households: Rice, beans, cook oil, powdered milk, etc.

JTS relief team distributed the goods to the villagers in a safe and effective manner. The expressions from the villagers receiving the goods were of general thankfulness.

One elderly woman shed tears thanking the team for bringing relief to such a remote village.

The disaster that befall them will not go away immediately. But we hope that our support will provide them with hope for the future.
