Sujata Academy was established in 1994 by Ven. Pomnyun Sunim, the Chairperson of Join Together Society (JTS), in Dungeshwari, India, located near Pragbodhi Hill. Ven. Pomnyun Sunim and JTS volunteers have been providing education, school meals, and medical treatment to the children of Dungeshwari for the past 30 years. All the students at Sujata Academy are learning from their example. Pragbodhi Hill is the place where the Buddha practiced asceticism for six years and where Sujata, a local village girl, offered milk-rice to the Buddha when he collapsed near a river. At Sujata Academy, children learn and practice the compassion of Sujata.
