During a TV interview about the difficulties faced by Daegu hospitals, the president of Daegu Medical Association revealed, “We are facing a severe shortage of medical masks. There simply aren’t any masks available for purchase in the market.”. In response, JTS Chairman Ven. Pomnyun Sunim and JTS volunteers urgently acquired masks in Seoul. On February 27, they made their way to Daegu to deliver the 5000 masks to medical personnel. Obtaining the masks was challenging since they are in such high demand.
In Daegu, most of the stores and businesses were closed. Only a few cars could be seen at the main intersection by the Daegu Train Station, which is usually surrounded by heavy traffic. The empty streets of Daegu testified to the difficulties experienced by the residents due to COVID-19.
At the Daegu Medical Association Center, Secretary General Kim Sung-woo welcomed Ven. Pomnyun Sunim and the volunteers. He said, “Thank you. There’s been much commotion due to the scarcity of masks in every hospital, so this is incredibly helpful.”
“Originally, we were going to distribute masks to the residents of Daegu, but we heard that the medical staff was experiencing shortages. As a result, we decided to deliver the masks to the hospitals first. They are KF94 medical masks,” explained Ven. Pomnyun Sunim.
“We just communicated to the hospitals that JTS delivered 5000 masks, and they said they will come to pick them up right away,” said Secretary General Kim.
Ven. Pomnyun Sunim responded, “Thank you for your hard work. We wish you the best of luck.”
JTS delivered a total of 5 boxes, each containing 1000 masks.
Secretary General Kim expressed his gratitude several times to JTS and Ven. Pomnyun Sunim.
In less than 5 minutes, an ambulance from a nearby hospital arrived to collect a box the masks. A minute later, staff from another hospital came to pick up a box as well. The urgency of the situation was evident.
I believe that together, we can make it through the COVID-19 pandemic.
We would like to extend our thanks to all those who support JTS.
Please take care, everyone!
