July 2019 JTS America Newsletter
We would like to extend our deepest thanks to all of those who have made generous donations to JTS America. Thanks to your donations, we were able to provide food and necessities to refugees, medicine to the sick, and school supplies and education to children who lacked educational opportunities. Also, JTS was able to send corn to North Korea for the children suffering from hunger with the 4 million dollars raised through the recent special fundraising campaign. Thank you for your continued interest and support.
The Third JTS Philippines Leaders’ Conference
Following the first JTS leader’s conference in August 2018 and the second conference in November 2018, the third conference opened in April 2019. The topic of the third conference was “Bridging Leadership”—in other words, resolving issues by building relationships between villages and stakeholders (county district office, government organizations such as barangays, and NGOs). By continuously holding leader’s conferences, JTS tries to provide an opportunity for the village leaders to learn how to become good leaders.

Butterfly Effect of Good Influences
Lim Jae-gyu, an eyeglass owner, donated glasses to the children of The Korean diaspora whose single mothers could not afford to purchase them. When Dharma teacher Wolgang of the Ansan JTS Multicultural Center contacted Lim jae-gyu after searching for someone who could help the children, he gladly offered to donate the glasses. He said that he was leading a much happier life thanks to the Dharma talks of Ven. Pomnyun Sunim so he was happy for the opportunity to help. As a result, he gladly volunteered his talents for those in need of help. The Butterfly Effect of Good Influences (https://jtsamerica.org/the-butterfly-effect-of-good-influences/)
Nutritional Support for Malnourished Children
The support program for malnourished children, which is one of the annual programs of the Jivaka Hospital, was initiated. During the period of one month, volunteers measured the height and weight of 335 children among a total of 394 eligible children from 15 villages, between the ages of 0-3. Items such as nutritional powder and oil (used for skin protection and prevention of skin trouble) were provided to the children. Infant milk food and skin oil were provided to infants under 9 months. Nutritional Support for Malnourished Children (https://jtsamerica.org/nutritional-support-for-malnourished-children/)
Words of Gratitude
On behalf of JTS, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported the fundraising campaign to send corn to North Korea. North Korea is currently experiencing a severe food shortage. Thanks to your generous donations and support, we were able to send 10,000 tons of corn at this time of great need. Your heartfelt support has planted the seed of hope for many precious lives.
With my deepest appreciation,
JTS Chairman Ven. Pomnyun Sunim July 1, 2019
