March 2022 JTS America Newsletter
Newly sprouted tree buds, fresh and green, and a warm wind signal that spring has arrived.. Although warm weather has arrived, when can we hear good news from Ukraine that has been suffering from the war? We sincerely hope that Ukrainians will see a peaceful spring soon. The JTS support for Ukraine is included in this Newsletter.
Our visit to Ukraine, a land where spring has yet to arrive
To help Ukrainian refugees who have been suffering from the war, Jina Park, the president of JTS Korea and a former secretary of Jungto Society in Germany and her husband surveyed the regional refugee shelters and other Ukraine refugee camps in Poland and Hungary. They left Germany, crossed the Polish, Slovakian and Hungarian borders and finally arrived at the Ukraine border. They heard from one camp director saying the most urgently needed item in Ukraine was tourniquets. Without hesitation, they decided to provide them.
Find Tourniquets!
The JTS Ukraine Support Team found that one Ukraine refugee camp needed a refrigerator, so the Team purchased and delivered it to the camp. In response to the request for tourniquets from the camp, the Team tried to purchase them in Europe. However, they failed to locate any due to the scarcity of tourniquets in Europe. The Team then asked JTS American to purchase them. Thanks to the dedicated and speedy volunteers of JTS America and Jungto Society in New York, 3,300 tourniquets could be safely sent to the Team in Ukraine without delay.
Revisit of Welcome Guest, JTS
Late January, before the lunar new year, JTS visited 34 senior homes in Jongno-gu, Seoul and provided the necessities of life and food packages to them. JTS visits them twice a year, summer and winter. JTS conducted a preliminary review of necessary goods and purchased them at low prices, and delivered them to senior citizens. This year, Jungto Society and the Seoul Facilities Corporation worked together and repaired old electric wiring and replaced electric lights for the citizens as well.
